WOOLLAHRA HOUSE

The project involves the extensive alterations and additions to a 1940’s free-standing house in Woollahra for a family with adult children.

The main living areas of the house are orientated towards the rear garden and pool and the more formal living room faces an elevated terrace and landscaped area towards the street. The bedrooms are on the upper level and the garage is situated at street level.

The kitchen is positioned at the pivotal point between the family and dining rooms and the entry/stair and formal living room.

The client who is an artist wanted an open plan kitchen but did not want it to dominate the room and to have plenty of wall and shelf space for the display of art.The solution was to only use only half the width of rear wall, to create a ‘full-height island’ with the main cooking area to the front and the secondary cooking area (for breakfast prep, baking and catering) to the rear. All full-height joinery is Dusty Mule polyurethane with recessed aluminium angles and overhead cabinets in Monument.

Additional kitchen storage and the laundry are ‘built-in’ into the rear wall - in Vivid White to match the internal walls.

Sliding doors can close off the ‘full-height island’ when doing laundry and for catering (also access from side passage).

The large island in Silver Grey Marble from Neiko is the feature of the room and is used for prepping food as well as for bar seating.

As for all our kitchens designs, the kitchen must be practicable, ergonomic, and beautiful.
